Senior Mechanical Engineer

MTEQ is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with extensive knowledge and strong communication skills to join our team of well qualified, diverse individuals at our Fort Belvoir, VA Office.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: The job function involves the design and development of Opto-Mechanical Sensor Systems for commercial and government applications. The candidate will be a Mechanical Engineer and will work as part of a dynamic team of multi-disciplinary engineers in support of the Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Directorate (NVESD). The works involves mechanical design, modeling, analysis, drawing generation, assembly procedures, part procurement, environmental analysis, and testing for systems and subassemblies. Duties will additionally include laboratory work conducting measurements and experiments, and field work in various locations throughout the continental United States. Qualified candidates should have a great attitude and work ethic, and be eager to learn and succeed.


  • Bachelor Science, Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university

  • 5-10 years of experience

  • Practical and recent experience in mechanical design, fabrication, integration, assembly, and test experience in DoD environment

  • CAD experience (Solid Works or CREO)

  • Experience creating and verifying compliance of engineering drawings to ASME Y14.5 practices.

  • Configuration Management experience

  • Project management experience

  • Ability to brief stakeholders

  • Familiarity with industry design standards, codes, and regulations

  • Ability to travel for several weeks at a time


  • Masters of Science, Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university desired

  • Ability and skill in Finite Element Analysis (FEA)

  • Ability and skill to design, program, and integrate micro-controllers

  • Ability and skill to program software


  • Ability to obtain Security clearance preferred.

  • Active Security Clearance a plus
